The Henchman PRO Tripod Ladder vs the Fully Adjustable Ladder

The PRO brings together all of the quality features of the Fully Adjustable, but with additional durability for more frequent use, adjustability and unique features. This makes it the leading tripod ladder on the market, the PRO features include:

  • Second platform rung offering more height variation for different jobs
  • 20% more adjustability in the legs than the Fully Adjustable model to tackle more extreme terrain
  • Back leg clip to secure the leg before transport

If you’re working on gentle slopes and steps, try our 1-Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder instead.

Features of the Fully Adjustable PRO Ladder

At Henchman, we’re all about providing professional standards for all. Our PRO tripod takes all the benefits of our original Professional model and adds so much more, so you can feel safe when working on any task, no matter your skill level.

Maximum adjustability for all environments

Our PRO tripod ladder makes it easier than ever to complete garden and DIY tasks, regardless of the environment. Each leg is independently adjustable to accommodate sloping surfaces, soft ground and steps. This makes jobs in tricky terrains easy to complete while minimising the risk of injury.

In fact, the PRO range offers 20% more adjustability than our Fully Adjustable Tripod, at least 20% more than competitor ladders and up to double the adjustability of our best-selling 8ft model, so you can rest assured you’ve got the most suitable solution to work safely on your uneven ground.

The new hedge-proof locking pin also allows for that extra layer of security, keeping the legs firmly in place.

Dual platform to provide support at multiple heights

The new PRO ladder range offers a second platform rung in addition to the built-in platform you’ll find with all Henchman models. This means that you’re supported when working at the top of the ladder and lower down. Whether you need to handle a variety of jobs at different heights, or you just want to rest your chest against the guardrail to feel more stable, the new PRO tripod will keep you safe and comfortable no matter what level you’re working at.

Extra wide feet for wobble-free working

The last thing you want to worry about when working at height is wobbling. That’s why every Henchman tripod features extra wide feet with a large surface area. The larger surface area prevents sinking, and its clawed design minimises slippage.

If you’re using your ladder indoors or on hard surfaces, simply fit the rubber overshoes that are supplied free of charge with your order.

Increased strength for ladders that last

Our tripod ladders are already strong and lightweight, but the PRO range is engineered with a thicker gauge of aluminium in key contact areas. This increases durability, reduces the risk of wear and tear and ensures frame rigidity.

The only EN131 tripod ladder certified in the EU

We’re proud to say that our tripod ladders are the only tripods on  the market to hold an EN131 certification - strict standards set by industry experts across the UK and EU that deem ladders to be safe.

This certification requires annual testing by an independent testing house for the ladder's stability, grip, dimensions, safety labelling and the safe working load of 150kg.

But what does the BS EN131 Kitemark actually mean?

We have chosen to Kitemark our tripod ladders as this certification goes above and beyond product testing - it looks at all aspects of the supply chain too. When you purchase from Henchman, you’re purchasing ladders that are:

  • Safety tested to the highest standards
  • Produced by approved and audited manufacturers
  • Treated with thorough quality control measures throughout the whole supply chain

BSI’s EN131 Kitemark Certification tests all of the below:

  • EN131 - this is done in three parts. The first tests terms, types and functional sizes - such as the ladder’s dimensional requirements. The second part tests its strength and stability and the third part assesses its labelling, markings and user instructions. This is to make sure that users understand how to safely use their product.
  • Manufacturer audit - the manufacturer(s) of the ladders are audited according to relevant ISO standards, to assess production methods and processes, quality control, and ensure a safe working environment for their employees.
  • Henchman audit - This is the final step in the Kitemark process. It’s designed to ensure adequate quality control procedures while also protecting you, the customer, by ensuring we have a reliable management structure and business continuity plans.

As you can see, the Kitemark certification process is very thorough and provides full reassurance in regards to the quality of our business and products. When doing your research, look out for misleading wording about safety standards, such as “conforms to”, “tested to”, or “built to” EN131 standards, as these terms are used freely and do not always mean ladders have been fully tested.  If you would like any more information, or to discuss how these safety standards fit within your business, please do not hesitate to contact us. To learn more, read our article on ladder standards here.

Selecting the right size Henchman ladder

Before ordering your ladder, be sure to consider the scope of your typical jobs and available space to ensure you order the correct size.

Note that, when we refer to the size of the ladder, we are referring to the total length when fully retracted, from top to bottom - as an example, 10ft is the full height of the 10ft ladder. They do not collapse down in height.

We always recommend that you work between shoulder and waist height. On the Fully Adjustable PRO Tripod, the platform is 3ft/0.9m from the top of the ladder, so your waist is in line with the top.

As an example, if the ladder is 6ft/1.8m, then your waist will be 6ft/1.8m from the ground. Generally, your shoulders are approximately 2ft/60cm higher than your waist. This means that you’ll have a working height range of 6-8ft/1.8-2.4m, shoulder to waist level.

So, if you need to reach 6-8ft/1.8-2.4m, then a 6ft/1.8m ladder is just what you need.

Our EN131 Professional Ladder sizes range from 6ft to 16ft.

What size do I need?

All sizes provided are with the extendable legs fully retracted.

To avoid ordering the wrong sized ladder, it’s important you know exactly how high you need to reach before you order.

For example, if you’re using your ladder to trim hedges, we suggest picking one that’s more or less the same height as that hedge. Measuring the hedge height before you order will ensure you choose the right size.

Working Height
(Based on the user being 1.8m)
Ladder Size Platform Height Hip Level Reaching Overhead Ladder Weight
1.8m 0.9m 1.8m 3.0m 8kg
2.4m 1.5m 2.4m 3.6m 10kg
3.0m 2.1m 3.0m 4.2m 12kg
3.6m 2.7m 3.6m 4.8m 14kg
4.2m 3.3m 4.2m 5.4m 18kg
4.8m 3.9m 4.8m 6.0m 23kg

How our sizing works

The height of our ladders is the total height from the very bottom to the very top of the ladder with the legs fully retracted. For example, our 1.8m ladder measures 1.8m tall.

The tripod ladder’s platform sits 0.9cm from the top of the ladder. When standing on this, the top of your ladder will be in line with your waist. That means, if you have a 1.8m ladder, your waist will also be at 1.8m.

Your shoulders will be approximately 60cm higher than your waist. We always recommend working between your waist and shoulder height. This will give you a working height range of 1.8-2.4m, waist to shoulder level.

So, if you need to reach between 1.8-2.4m, our 1.8m will suit your needs perfectly.

Heights available: From 1.8m to 4.8m

Standing platform depth: 18cm

Approximate working height (waist level): Same as the total height of the ladder

Approximate working height (shoulder level): 0.6m above the ladder’s height

Maximum standing height: 0.9m below the ladder’s height

Weight: From 8kg to 23kg

Storage dimensions: The full storage length is the total length of the ladder. The storage width ranges between 0.8m on the 1.8m tripod, to 1.8m on the 4.8m tripod. Can be stored securely outside.

Storage depth:  0.2m on all tripod ladders

Weight limit: 150kg

Introducing the NEW Henchman Fully Adjustable PRO Tripod Ladder

FAQs about our ladders

It’s simple, really. Our 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladders provide wobble-free stability because all three feet always remain in contact with the ground.

By adjusting each leg individually to counteract uneven ground, the 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder allows you to ensure that the rungs are always level. All three legs adjust up to 45cm to allow you to safely work on all types of surfaces, including uneven and sloping terrain. The ladder’s claw-like feet grip soft ground to add extra stability, and stop the ladder from sinking.

The 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder’s standing platform provides a safe place for your feet while you work. You can tuck your knees into the frame for extra stability, allowing you to use both hands safely as you work.

If you’re planning to use the ladder in your garden, we always recommend the 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder.

That’s because in order to be safe, all ladders (including a Henchman ladder) need to be upright and level. Very few gardens are perfectly level. Most have a degree of unevenness, whether that’s steep slopes or gentle lumps and bumps.

The Henchman 3 Leg Adjustable Tripod Ladder is designed to cope with almost all terrain, so it is very rare that you’ll find somewhere where you can’t safely use one.

On the other hand, tripod ladders with just 1 adjustable leg are designed to be used on flat ground, or facing up or down a single planed gentle slope. A tripod ladder with 1 adjustable leg will not work if you have a slope parallel to the area where you’re working.

For example, if your garden faces up or down a hill, but your hedges run along the left or right hand sides of your garden, a one leg adjustable ladder won’t offer your stability. In this case, you’d need a three leg adjustable ladder.

Yes, you can use our 3 adjustable leg tripod ladder indoors.

In fact, they work brilliantly indoors when purchased with our optional rubber feet.

These feet improve grip on flat hard surfaces and also protect delicate floors from being scratched by the clawed feet.

If you’re planning to use your tripod ladder for professional purposes, such as landscape gardening or tree surgery, then we’d suggest our Professional 3-leg adjustable tripod platform ladder instead.

Although similar to our standard model, our professional model is made from thicker aluminium and is built to better withstand regular use and transit. This makes it far more resistant to frequent use over the years.

It’s really important to pick the right size ladder. If you choose a ladder that’s too tall, you’ll spend your time working on the lower rungs rather than from the platform. If you choose a ladder that’s too short, you may be tempted to stretch up and over reach, causing imbalance and instability.

Please see the “What size ladder do I need?” section on this page for help choosing the right sized ladder. If you’re still unsure about what size to choose, please get in contact and we’ll be more than happy to help.

The rubber feet make your ladder easier to use inside and on hard surfaces.

Slide them onto the feet of the Tripod ladder and they will protect your floor from scratches and improve grip.

It’s important to always take the rubber feet off when working on soft ground or gravel, as the clawed aluminium feet are designed to dig into and grip the ground, preventing slipping or sinking.
